Journey on Relaxation Exercise

Good Afternoon Class,

After listening and trying to follow the relaxation instructor's directions I was unsuccessful.  I tried to relax, take shoes off and do the proper breathing techniques but my hand and arms never felt any heavier or relaxed.  I believe that I was unable to be a good participant due to all the music and the constant talking.  My job requires me to be constantly alert and busy.  Working with children that are autistic and deaf, I hear noises, bells, screams, shouting and play ALL day.  When I come home I usually relax by sitting somewhere quiet, no noise.  My need for relaxation and quiet time happens after well after everyone is in bed because I still have dinner to prepare, a husband and children at home to assist.  Not to mention other family duties and school work.

While listening  I was constantly in "think" mode to prepare what I would remember to write for this blog regarding my experience.  As well as how to properly write this blog.

Unfortunately my brain and body didn't want to go on the "journey".  I also felt that the voice was hard to listen to because it was unfamiliar and a little creepy to me.  Hopefully, other students experiences were more successful.

Respectfully Truthful,

Desiree Stroder

  1. Desiree it is nice to meet you. Wow you have a full day. Everyone needs time to themselves after a long day. There are days unfortunately I don't get it either.

  2. Desiree,
I can totally relate to turning off the world after a long day at work. I am overwhelmed by electronic bells, alarms and noises. My best rides home are on my bike, no noise, or sometimes some classical music to transport me away from the chaos.

  3. Hi Desiree, I also had a difficult time with the exercise. I sometimes find it uncomfortable to relax, if that makes any sense, especially if I have a list of things on my to do list. It sounds as if your days are very eventful, yet I also get the feeling you've created your own balance using quiet time. Maybe we all find relaxation in our own ways, and it's not a one size fits all, like this exercise.

  4. Desiree, you're not alone! This exercise didn't do anything for me either. For me the voice was too soft to the point where I could barely here it even with my speakers all the way up. I tried to focus, but it just wasn't for me. I can understand your desire for complete quite after such a loud working environment.
